You may think of yourself as a pretty self-aware person. But how tuned into your mood–and what affects it–are you? You may be able to rattle off a list of things that make you happy or sad, but what about the smaller things? For example, could you answer how background music, temperature changes or a busier-than-average day affect your mood?
Start Tracking Your Mood
Before you start tracking your mood, you may have no idea how the small things in life make you feel. When you start tracking your mood every day though, as well as other things happening that day to and around you, you will have a better sense of self.
What You Need to Track
For two weeks, track your moods thoroughly. Write down your overall emotion or emotions for the day, the events of the day, including things like temperature and weather, and any connection you observe between your emotions and the day’s affairs.
Review and Consider
After two weeks’ time, review your notes. What have you learned about yourself? What makes you happy or sad? Tense or anxious? Excited?
Now that you know this about yourself, you should start to design your life around the things that bring you joy rather than the things that bring you stress or cause tension.
What changes will you make?
