What’s Going To Make This New Year Special For You?

Some of us write New Year resolutions. Others have a list of on-going goals.

But whether you are inspired to develop or happy as you are, it is mandatory to be involved in the business of change.

So you might as well make the change in the direction you desire.

If all conditions were fulfilled and you could live the life you desire – what would make this new year a special one for you?

Start By Defining The Goal

A better word to use for dreams and desires is… goals. A dream is a vision, a goal is the process of clarifying that vision. So, let’s start by getting clarity on your goals this year.

A resolution is a ‘declaration of desire.’ A goal is the process of manifesting that desire.

I want to earn more money...

Learn how to ride a horse…

Spend less time worrying and more time enjoying life…

Lose weight...

Travel more.

A resolutions activates a mental state of regard for the quality of our lives. We tread the line of the current reality and the exciting prospect of how things could be in our future state of being.

What does your ideal future self look like?

Here’s a hint: pick the traits and behaviors that are important to you.

Now that you have your resolutions in place, let’s move on to the top two reasons why goals fail – lack of accountability and habits.

Keep Your Self Accountable This New Year

The biggest foe to your goals is your own willingness to sabotage them. To stay on top of your resolutions this year, keep yourself accountable. The truth is often quite simple and stares you in the face. You know that walking to the fridge for a third helping of dessert goes against your resolution to be healthy. And yet, we engage in these minor infractions every day which slowly transpire in the quick death of our resolutions.

What’s left then is a dying resolution in it’s final stages of early retirement. The resolution now become a distant dream… just a wish.

Where did things go wrong? You probably failed to stay accountable.

Create Habits To Stay On Track

Is your resolution to lose weight? Is your goal to show up at the gym four times a week? Then your actions in the first three months of setting that goal will determine if this is going to be a completed goal or just a wish.

Whatever you decide to change – do something in that direction every day. Your daily practice has far greater impact on your resolutions than working in batches periodically when you have the time.

Be intentional about your goals. Be mindful of your change. And be engaged in your daily practice.

The fantasy of a fresh start motivates us to change.

But will we change?

And remember: not trying is the biggest failure.
