In part I of this, we talked about how the brain becomes overloaded as a result of social media, internet, texting, and email – all things which are constantly demanding our attention and making us hungry for more. In part II of this, we’ll discuss a few things that you can do to change your brain for the better–
Take a Nap
Your brain needs rest. In fact, without sleep, the brain is unable to repair itself, which can lead to long-term damage and decay overtime, leading to neurodegenerative diseases. Even if you are getting plenty of sleep at night, give yourself the opportunity to get between five to 30 minutes of shuteye in the middle of the day when possible.
Being in Nature
Studies show that those who spend time in nature on a regular basis have higher rates of happiness and lower rates of stress and depression than do non nature-goers. Walking outside provides psychological benefits and of course the physical benefits of spending time outdoors can’t be beat, either.
Meditation
Meditation can be a very powerful activity, and can actually change your brain for the better. If you have never meditated before, don’t be intimidated; the practice is relatively straightforward and simple. In fact, you can learn to meditate in two minutes.
