I’ve done the biggest thing; closed a huge deal, expanded my business, and landed the promotion that I’ve always wanted- so, why do I still feel like there is a huge pit in my stomach? That nagging and churning feeling that tells me everything is not right?
The reality is that when we embark on new projects or even set new goals, we need lots of energy. Chances are that I am feeling low because I’m embracing negative energy.
We all have energy cords that tie us to different situations. But when we are in a leadership position or are running a business, embracing positivity will make us more efficient in our roles.
So, how can we cut the cords to negative energy? Here are 3 tips that will help us shift our energy and achieve better results:
- Tip #1; Visualize, visualize, visualize!
As we see things through our “mind’s eyes”, we can picture the professional challenges that we may be experiencing and imagine that we are cutting the cord. It could be a lack of finances or even the fear of public speaking as a leader.
Now, visualize the cords that are connecting us to negativity and picture cutting them using a pair of scissors. Take a moment to anchor this experience while speaking words of affirmation such as “all negativity is destroyed, never to return again”.
And so it will be.
Afterward, when we sit in quiet meditation, the positive energy takes over.
- Tip #2: Invoke a higher perspective
Getting confrontational with the people we work with brings about negativity. To turn things around and focus on the goal at hand, we should avoid confrontations and look for ways that will allow us to contribute positively to the team. It is also important to encourage our team members to rise above the noise and work together.
- Tip #3: Do not complain
Complaining is one of the ways to sustain negative energy. When we are focused on negative emotions, we will complain more. This is because we will be focusing on the things that irritate us at work. The simple truth is that complaining will not solve anything. It will only have a profound effect on the negativity that we harbor in our consciousness.
Most importantly, negativity reframes our mindset and makes us consider everything as “wrong”. When we stop complaining, we recognize that we cannot change things that are beyond our control. As such, we will free ourselves from many negative influences.
The Bottom Line
It is quite easy for our minds to spin out of control when we hit rough patches at the workplace. At this point, the best solution is to weed out the negative energy and focus on some much-needed positivity. Granted, a personality conflict with a colleague is bound to happen from time to time. But it is best to channel that energy to a positive place so that we can be our best at all times.
