Putting a Successful Morning Routine in Place

Do you take advantage of the morning?

Exposing yourself to bright light (i.e. the sun!) early in the morning has proven benefits. And as the old adage goes, the early bird gets the worm. Which means that if you don’t consider yourself a morning person, and if you do not already have a solid morning routine in place, now is the time to get motivated. Here are some tips for forming a successful routine for the morning:

Get Up Early

This can be hard to do, but a productive morning starts with getting up early. Set your alarm and stick to it, even when you feel groggy or want to hit snooze. Early doesn’t have to be 4:00 a.m., but sometime between 5:00 and 7:00 a.m. is reasonable.


One of the best ways to boost your energy in the morning is to move around a bit rather than heading straight to the bed from the couch. Make coffee or breakfast, go for a long walk if you have the time or a short brisk walk if you don’t. Force yourself to breathe deeply. Challenge your body to test itself. Consider some jumping jacks or sitting in a squat. Do some morning yoga.

Plan Your Day

Take five minutes in the morning to briefly outline your day. You’re up and moving – what now? If you have a plan for how to tackle each task you need to accomplish, you will be more productive.
