Releasing What No Longer Needs Your Energy

For the past many months, I’ve been releasing.

Not just getting rid of things.

Releasing.

There is a difference.

I’ve been going through nearly every corner of my life.

My house, my office, my computer files.

Boxes, folders, old programs, forgotten notes, partial thoughts.

And a few key books I’ve kept over the years that contain ideas I wrote down long ago.

At first, it was practical.

I wanted to make more room for focus, clarity, and what is next.

But something else happened; I started seeing my life differently.

The Puzzle Pieces Were Already There

As I went through those old books and pieces of writing, I started noticing something I hadn’t fully appreciated before.

So many things that are meaningful in my life today started as something very small.

A sentence. A question. A frustration. A realization. An idea I couldn’t quite explain yet.

And then, years later, I could see it.

The thing I had written down had become real.

Not necessarily in the exact form I imagined it.

But the energy behind it had found somewhere to go.

That fascinated me.

Because I’ve spent much of my life wanting to understand how energy moves, how we experience it, and how it affects our minds, businesses, relationships, bodies, decisions, and ultimately our lives.

And I’ve always had this deep desire to help people see what is happening underneath the surface so they can release what is keeping them stuck and move into something different.

Looking back, I can see that the pieces were always there.

I just didn’t know what picture they were creating yet.

Follow the Clues

I think we often underestimate the clues our own lives are giving us.

We expect the answer to arrive fully formed.

The big idea. The perfect business. The breakthrough. The moment when everything suddenly makes sense.

But that’s rarely how it happens.

Instead, you get a clue. Then another.

You become interested in something. You notice a pattern. You have a conversation that stays with you.

Someone tells you their story. You see something in their experience that you recognize. You find yourself asking the same question again and again.

And if you pay attention, the pieces start connecting.

That has certainly been true for me.

The clues around energetics kept showing up. So did the desire to help people.

Then came the work. The teachings. The homework. The stories people brought to me. The patterns I could see in their lives. The breakthroughs.

The places where someone would finally see something differently and realize they didn’t have to keep operating from the same pattern.

Piece by piece, those experiences began weaving together.

And eventually, they became a world of energetics.

A way of teaching. A way of working. A way of igniting people into something more.

I didn’t sit down one day and decide, “This is what my life is going to become.”

I followed the clues.

Sometimes You Don’t Recognize the Beginning

One of the things that struck me while going through these old pieces was how many beginnings, I had forgotten.

I found ideas I had written down years ago that eventually showed up as fulfilled experiences in my life.

Things I might have thought were simply thoughts at the time.

But they weren’t insignificant.

They were clues.

My first articles were in the LA Times.

I had a weekly article for three years.

And honestly, I had almost forgotten about it because, at the time, it didn’t seem “big enough.”

That makes me smile now.

Because we have a tendency to dismiss what is happening in the present because it doesn’t yet look like what it will eventually become.

At the time, I was just writing.

I didn’t know what it would lead to. I didn’t need to know. I was following something inside me that wanted to be expressed. And that matters.

Because your next thing may already be showing up in your life.

You may simply be dismissing it because it doesn’t look significant yet.

Not Every Piece Belongs in the Next Picture

There’s another thing I’ve noticed through this process.

Some things still have energy. Some things still have meaning. Some things remind you of who you were and how far you’ve come.

And some things?

They’ve completed their purpose.

They don’t need to come with you.

That is true physically. It is also true energetically.

We carry old decisions. Unspoken expectations. Lingering disappointments. Unresolved conversations. Outdated ways of doing things. Old beliefs about who we are and what we’re capable of.

Sometimes we carry them for so long that they become invisible.

They become so familiar that we call them “me.”

But familiar doesn’t mean true. And familiar doesn’t mean it belongs in your future.

Sometimes releasing something isn’t about deciding that it was bad.

It’s simply recognizing that it has done what it came here to do.

And now it can go.

Sometimes the Next Clue Needs Space

I see this with clients all the time.

They want the next level.

More money. More clients. More freedom. More creativity. More impact.

And their first instinct is to add something.

Another strategy. Another course. Another system. Another expert. Another answer.

But sometimes the answer isn’t adding.

It’s releasing.

Because when your attention is consumed by what has already happened, you have less capacity to recognize what is happening now.

You can become so busy managing the old that you miss the new.

And if your business is still operating from assumptions that no longer fit, you may be working harder without actually moving forward.

Sometimes what needs to change isn’t the strategy.

It’s the energy behind it.

What Are You Still Giving Energy To?

This is worth asking.

What are you still giving energy to that has already completed its purpose?

What are you holding onto because you think you might need it someday?

What old decision is still influencing today’s choices?

What pattern have you accepted simply because it is familiar?

And perhaps most importantly:

What clue keeps showing up that you haven’t fully followed yet?

Because your life may be trying to show you something.

The idea that keeps returning. The conversation you keep having. The problem you keep wanting to solve.

The kind of person you keep wanting to help. The thing you keep noticing that other people seem to overlook.

Pay attention.

Those things may not be random.

They may be pieces of the puzzle.

The Question I’m Asking Myself Now

After going through all of this, I found myself asking:

What idea today could help bring more people into being served over the next thirty years of my life?

That question feels very different to me now.

I understand that what I create today may not reveal its full impact today.

A thought can become a book. A conversation can become a teaching. A frustration can become a solution. A question can become an entirely new way of seeing.

A small idea can eventually help thousands of people.

But there is another question that comes first:

What needs to be released so I can recognize the clue when it arrives?

We spend so much time thinking about what we want to create that we forget to ask what is taking up the space where the next thing wants to emerge.

Your Next Chapter May Already Be Giving You Clues

I don’t believe your future requires you to become someone completely different.

I believe there are parts of you that already know.

The idea may already be there. The desire may already be there. The next expression of your life may already be trying to get your attention.

But sometimes the noise is louder than the knowing.

So maybe you don’t need to figure everything out today.

Maybe you need to release one thing.

One file. One commitment. One belief. One expectation. One story you’ve been carrying that no longer belongs.

Then pay attention.

What gets louder when the noise gets quieter? What keeps coming back?

What feels alive? What have you been dismissing because it seemed too small?

Follow the clue.

Then the next one.

And the next.

Because sometimes you don’t see the whole picture until you look back and realize that the pieces were there all along.

You weren’t lost.

You were gathering the pieces.

And releasing what no longer belongs may be what allows you to finally see how they fit.

What Are You Ready to Release?

I created The Energy Edge as a private space where you can explore what may be underneath the surface and have a conversation around the energy, patterns, and possibilities showing up in your world.

Sometimes you need another person.

Sometimes you need a tool.

And sometimes you simply need a private place to ask the question you haven’t been willing to ask yet.

What are you ready to release so you can recognize the clue that is trying to lead you forward?
