I’m a little shy about sharing this.
But here it is.
I was recently honored with the United Nations Global Peace Ambassador Award.
And honestly, I almost didn’t talk about it.
Not because it isn’t meaningful.
It is.
But I’ve never been someone who does this work for recognition.
I care about what happens underneath the surface.
I care about what changes when someone finally sees the pattern they’ve been repeating for years.
I care about the leader who stops blaming the circumstances and starts taking ownership.
I care about the entrepreneur who realizes the thing blocking their growth isn’t another strategy.
It’s them.
Their fear. Their beliefs.
Their energy. Their unwillingness to choose.
That’s the work.
And yet, this award reminded me of something I’ve learned over and over again:
Sometimes you have to be willing to show up and shine.
Not because it’s about you.
Because someone else may need to see what’s possible.
I Wasn’t Always Comfortable With “Yes”
Years ago, after a significant loss, my dad encouraged me to speak with someone I didn’t know.
She gave me a piece of advice that sounded almost too simple.
Just say yes.
At the time, I had no idea what that would mean.
But that advice changed the trajectory of my life.
Because we’re conditioned to say no.
No, I can’t. No, that’s too much.
No, that’s impossible. No, I’m not ready.
No, I don’t know how. No, that’s not for someone like me.
We become incredibly creative at finding reasons not to move.
And then we wonder why we’re stuck.
But here’s what I’ve discovered:
Yes creates movement.
Yes doesn’t mean saying yes to everything.
It doesn’t mean being reckless.
It means becoming willing to move beyond the version of yourself that only chooses what feels safe.
Your Life Is Asking You to Choose
I’ve worked with enough people to know that most of us aren’t as confused as we think we are.
We know. We just don’t want to choose.
Because choice has consequences.
Choice means responsibility.
Choice means you can’t keep standing at the crossroads forever, asking everyone else which road you should take.
I recently spoke with someone who was overwhelmed by all the possibilities in front of her.
She had ideas. She had opportunities.
She had plenty of things she could do.
But she couldn’t choose.
So I told her:
Choice is a muscle. You use it or you don’t.
And when you stop exercising it, everything becomes a debate.
Should I?
Shouldn’t I?
What if?
Maybe later.
I’ll wait until I know more.
I’ll wait until it feels easier.
I’ll wait until I’m certain.
But certainty doesn’t always come before the decision.
Sometimes the decision creates the certainty.
You choose.
Then you move.
Then you learn.
Then you adjust.
That’s how growth works.
The Hard Road Is Sometimes the Right Road
There are choices that will make you uncomfortable.
They may create physical discomfort.
Mental discomfort.
Emotional discomfort.
They may require you to disappoint someone.
Let go of something.
Change your identity.
Raise your standards.
Be seen
Tell the truth. Or finally admit that the thing you’ve been trying to make work simply isn’t working anymore.
That doesn’t necessarily mean you’ve made the wrong choice.
It may mean you’ve finally made a choice that requires you to grow.
And growth is rarely comfortable.
This Is Why the Award Means Something to Me
Receiving this recognition has made me think about what peace actually means.
Because peace isn’t simply the absence of conflict.
Peace begins much closer to home.
Inside you. Inside your nervous system.
Inside your beliefs. Inside the stories you keep telling yourself.
Inside the energy you bring into your relationships.
Inside the way you respond when someone challenges you.
Inside the way you lead when things don’t go your way.
We can talk about changing the world all day long.
But if we’re carrying fear, resentment, separation, unconscious patterns, and unresolved conflict everywhere we go, we’re taking those things with us.
What is happening within you eventually shows up around you.
Change the inside.
And the outside begins to respond differently.
You communicate differently.
You lead differently. You make different decisions.
You attract different opportunities. You create different relationships.
You become different.
So Where Are You Saying No?
This is the question I want you to sit with.
Not: “What should I do?”
Ask yourself:
“What am I saying no to that I already know I need to say yes to?”
Maybe it’s the conversation you’ve been avoiding.
Maybe it’s the business decision you’ve been postponing.
Maybe it’s stepping into greater visibility.
Maybe it’s finally letting go of something you’ve outgrown.
Maybe it’s trusting yourself enough to make the choice you’ve already been circling.
You don’t need to know every step.
You need to take the next one.
Yes, and take action. Yes, and choose.
Yes, and learn. Yes, and adjust.
Yes, and keep going.
That’s what saying yes really means.
It’s not about being fearless.
It’s about refusing to let fear make every decision for you.
And perhaps that’s part of what this award represents for me.
Not a finish line.
Not a reason to stop.
An invitation to keep showing up.
To keep doing the work.
To keep having the conversations.
To keep shining a light on what is happening beneath the surface.
And to keep saying yes to what I’m here to do.
Peace is an inside job before it becomes a global one.
And maybe your next yes is waiting for you right now.
